Chinese Rowan

Chinese Mountain Ash
Mountain Ash, Rowan Berry,
(Sorbus reducta)

The genus Sorbus is a large group of trees and shrubs grown primarily for their showy fruit and in some cases for their Autumn foliage. Many of the species are sizable shrubs or small trees. There are a few members of this species that are around 1M (39") in height. The Dwarf Chinese Mountain Ash is one.

This interesting low maintenance dwarf species is native to Western China and Northern Burma. Dark, shiny green leaves are divided into serrated leaflets. It is perfect for a small garden, or as a feature plant. It does tend to sucker and spread a bit, but is easy to control.

Zone: 3A
Height: 90Cm (36")
Spread: 1-3M (3-9 ft)
Exposure: Full Sun to Part Shade
Habit: Upright and Spreading
Moisture: Moist but well-drained

Best of all it is quite tolerant of most soil conditions, Chalk, Clay, Loam or Sandy soils,
--- it just takes them in it's stride!

Hi Larry .. this is a new one to me .. do the berries stay white the whole season ?
I have a question .. if you can get back to me .. I live in zone 5b (Kingston Ontario) .. I am very interested in a "Korean Maple" tree
aka Acer pseudosieboldianum .. have you any experience with this tree and if so could you tell me what you think of it ? From what I have read it is a moderate grower and smallish .. perfect as a substitute for Japanese maples because the Korean is well within our zone.
Thanks !
Joy

They tend to show more pink as the season progresses.
