Western Red Lily
Wood Lily, Prairie Lily, Western Lily, Western Red Lily
(Lilium philadelphicum andinum)
Most Provinces, States, Municipalities, Counties or Cities have 'Official Floral Emblems'.
Here in Saskatchewan, in 1941, the Western Red Lily was chosen as our official flower. This lily grows in moist meadows or semi-wooded areas all across our province. With its striking red blossoms, it stands out brilliantly against nature's natural green background. Unfortunately, heavy agricultural use has destroyed a large portion of it's habitat. At present in Saskatchewan, the Western Red Lily is a protected species.
The following is from Sask Schools Web Page:
This flower is the floral emblem of Saskatchewan .
It grows in wet places (meadows, ditches and wooded areas).
The flower blooms from late June to mid July.
It is a beautiful flower with reddish-orange blossoms.
When the pioneers first came to the prairies
there were thousands of lilies blooming.
This flower is now protected .
This means that you should not pick the lily.
It grows from a bulb so once the bulb is pulled out
the flower will no longer grow.

We have placed the Western Red Lily in a very prominent place, for all to see,
-- It is featured on our provincial flag!
