Plant Rights

Going green or going garbage, that is the question. Actually I find this to be a case of hysterics running over logic. Hey, just because I'm in the original green industry does not mean I agree with green stupidity.

What am I ranting about, well the Swiss have hired a bunch of University Ethicists, to make sure a 'plant' can never again be humiliated. This is akin to letting a Sociology Prof plan a country's economy.
For years, Swiss scientists have blithely created genetically modified rice, corn and apples. But did they ever stop to consider just how humiliating such experiments may be to plants?
So now Swiss plant breeders, and researchers must conduct their research without trampling on a plant's dignity.
Seeking clarity, Dr. Poirier recently invited the head of the Swiss ethics panel to his university. In their public discussion, Dr. Poirier said the new rules are flawed because decades of traditional plant breeding had led to widely available sterile fruit, such as seedless grapes. Things took a surreal turn when it was disclosed that some panel members believe plants have feelings, Dr. Poirier says.
Are we supposed to drop everything and go back 100 years plus, just to prove we are green?
Several years ago, when Christof Sautter, a botanist at Switzerland's Federal Institute of Technology, failed to get permission to do a local field trial on transgenic wheat, he moved the experiment to the U.S. He's too embarrassed to mention the new dignity rule to his American colleagues. "They'll think Swiss people are crazy," he says.
Thinking they are crazy is at this point not an option, they just proved they are!

Is washing a potato the same as water-boarding. I can hardly wait until they declare cooking veggies equal to taking a life. Yep, You tortured a whole pot of vegetables, by immersing them in boiling water, "You are sentenced to 5 years hard time, without parole."
It also begs an obvious, if unrelated question: For a carrot, is there a more mortifying fate than being peeled, chopped and dropped into boiling water?
Me thinks that they should go back to protecting the World's Dictators big bank accounts, at least they were good at that.
